Colin Benner

Colin Benner

Colin Benner is an experienced mining executive. With more than 40 years in the mining industry, he has held senior management and executive roles in Canada and internationally. Most recently, Colin was Chairman of PBS Coals Ltd., Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Skye Resources, and Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lundin Mining Corporation and EuroZinc Mining Corporation. Colin also serves on a number of public mining company boards in Canada. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario; the Canadian Society of Professional Engineers; the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia; the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Nunavut; the Society of Mining Engineers of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers; and the Canadian Institute of Mining. Colin is also a Registered ICD-DP.
Mark Daniel

Mark Daniel

Over his career, Mr. Daniel worked for the Bank of Canada and a number of other Canadian government organizations prior to joining the Conference Board of Canada in 1979. During his 15-year career with the Conference Board, he benchmarked leadership and management practices in some of the most successful companies in North America, Europe and Japan. Mr. Daniel joined Vale Inco (formerly CVRD Inco) in 1996, retiring as Vice President, Human Resources in 2007. Since that time, he has consulted to organizations on performance improvement, executive development, succession planning and organization design. Mr. Daniel holds a PhD in economics from the University of Minnesota.

Richard Colterjohn has been Managing Partner of Glencoban Capital Management Inc. since 2002. He is a Principal of Glencoban and has over 20 years of experience in the mining sector as an investment banker, Director and operator. The founder of Centenario Copper Corporation, Richard has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since March 3, 2004.

Richard worked as an investment banker for 17 years; his responsibilities included leading mining sector investment banking activities in Canada: from 1992-2002, he served as managing director of UBS Bunting Warburg Inc.'s corporate finance department; from 1988-1991, he was employed by Bankers Trust; and, from 1986-1988, by Merrill Lynch.

Terry A. Lyons

After completing a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Mr. Lyons attended the University of Western Ontario, graduating with an MBA in 1974. Mr. Lyons is currently a director of several public corporations including Director, Canaccord Capital Inc,. Diamonds North Resources Ltd., Farallon Resources Ltd. Sprott Resource Corp as well as several private corporations. He is a past Vice Chairman of Battle Mountain Gold Company and former Chairman of Westmin Resources Limited.

Alan Edwards, BSc, MBA

Alan Edwards is a mining professional with 27 years of diverse mining industry experience. At the outset of his career, Alan worked for 15 years for Phelps Dodge Corporation, where he held positions of increasing responsibility, including General Manager of Operations, Chino Mines Company. From 2007 to 2009, Alan served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Frontera Copper Corporation. From 2004-2007, he was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Apex Silver Mines Corporation, where he was responsible for the engineering, construction, and commissioning of the San Cristobal project in Bolivia. From 1996-2000, Alan worked for Cyprus Amax Minerals Company, where he rose to the position of President/General Manager of Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde S.A. in Peru. Prior to joining Apex Silver Mines, he held senior operating positions with P.T. Freeport Indonesia and Kinross Gold Corporation.

Alan has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining Engineering and an MBA (Finance), both from the University of Arizona.

Ronald E. Smith

Ronald E. Smith

Ronald Smith has an extensive background in the financial, telecommunications, and energy sectors. A former Chief Financial Officer with Aliant Telecom Inc. and its predecessor, Maritime Telephone & Telegraph Ltd., he later served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Emera Inc. and its major subsidiary, Nova Scotia Power Inc. Ron has recently completed terms as Chair of the Acadia University Board of Governors and the Nova Scotia Voluntary Planning Board and continues to serve on both boards. Ron is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, a trustee of the Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations pension fund, and a member of the Canadian Accounting Standards Oversight Council. He is a former National President of the Canadian Association for Community Living and former Chair of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council.

Patrick D. Downey

Patrick D. Downey

Mr. Downey is a retired executive with over 30 years experience in the mining industry.  Over his career he has been a director and executive of a number of publicly listed mining companies including Northgate Minerals Corp.   The companies he has been associated with have been involved in mining operations primarily involving gold and copper in North and South America and Australia.  During his career he has been engaged in numerous corporate mergers and acquisitions.  He is a Canadian Chartered Accountant and Institute of Corporate Directors Certified Director.

René Marion

René Marion

As an experienced senior executive in the mining sector, René Marion has over 25 years of experience in mining operations, operational management, and mine engineering – along with acquisition evaluations, feasibility studies, development, and mergers – throughout the world.

During his career, René held increasingly senior roles with Barrick Gold Corporation, including Vice President, Technical Services. In 2005, he was appointed as Barrick's Regional Vice President, Russia and Central Asia. Prior to joining AuRico, he had been seconded as Chief Operating Officer of Highland Gold Mining Ltd., a publicly traded strategic partner of Barrick Gold.

Mr. Marion holds a BSc Degree in Mining Engineering (1985) from Queens University.

Luis Chavez

Luis Chavez

Luis Chavez has considerable experience in all mining-related areas. With his significant experience, proven management capabilities, and leadership demonstrated through public- and private-sector positions, Luis is one of the most recognized individuals in the Mexican mining community.

In 1993, President Salinas invited Luis to serve as General Director of the Mexican Geological Survey, a position confirmed by President Zedillo in 1994. Luis held that position until 2001. From 1994-1996, he also served as President of the Association of Mining, Metallurgical and Geological Engineers of Mexico and, from 1996-1998, he was President of the Mining and Geological Surveys Association for Iberoamerica. In 1997, President Zedillo recognized Luis with the Earth Sciences National Award for his contributions to the Mexican mining sector.

Luis is the author of the National Mapping Program and the creator of the largest geology and mining data bank currently in use by mining companies doing business in Mexico. In 2001, the Governor of the State of Coahuila invited Luis to become Director of Energy and Mines with the objective of developing rational and sustainable development policies and strategies to maximize energy and mineral resources value. From 2002-2006, he was Secretary General for the Mexican Mining Directors and President of the Mexican Institute for Environmental Management.

Luis holds a M.Sc. degree in Mineral Economics (1978) from Penn State University in the United States., and a Ph.D degree in Energy and Mineral Economics (1982) from the University of Arizona in the United States. He has a Business Administration Degree (1989) from the Pan-American Business Institute in Monterrey, Mexico.

Martha I. Lara-Alatorre

Martha I. Lara-Alatorre

Ambassador Martha I. Lara-Alatorre is the government relations advisor for Mexico on AuRico’s Board of Directors. Martha advises the board on geo-sociopolitical matters; legislative trends in mining, environment, and labour relations; fiscal issues; and international relations.

As an elected official and career diplomat, Martha worked in public service and Mexico’s Foreign Service from 1971 through 2007. Throughout her career, Martha has held many diverse posts, including in Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Director-General of the United Nations, and the Organization of American States (Economic Affairs).

Prior to her AuRico appointment, she served as Secretary of Industrial Development for the State of Chihuahua and as consultant to American Industries. Prior to that, Martha served as Federal Senator for the State of Chihuahua from 1994-2000. She was President of the Senate in 1995 and Mexican Vice President to the Latin American Parliament from 1996-2000. From 1998-2000, she was President of the Senate Commission for North America. In the Chihuahua government, Martha held the posts of Secretary of State and Lieutenant Governor (1986-1992) and Interim Governor (May 1991).

Martha was also the Mexican representative to the Inter-American Women’s Commission, and she has represented her country in various international forums, including the United Nations Decade for Women commission. Martha’s accomplishments have been recognized numerous times, including with a Woman of the Year award in Ciudad Juárez and an Excellence Award from the Mexican Entrepreneurs Association in San Antonio.
