Board of Directors – Biographies

Terry Lyons       Terry A. Lyons, BSc (Civil Eng), MBA
Director since 1993
 
After completing a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Mr. Lyons attended the University of Western Ontario, graduating with an MBA in 1974. Mr. Lyons is currently Chairman of Northgate Minerals Corporation and a director and officer of several public corporations including Director, BC Pacific Capital Corporation; Canaccord Capital Inc. (Audit Committee Chair), Diamonds North Resources Ltd. and the Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Project Ltd., as well as several private corporations. He is a past Vice Chairman of Battle Mountain Gold Company (Audit, Special Committee), former Chairman of Westmin Resources Limited and is currently Chairman of the Mining Association of BC.

Ken Stowe Kenneth G. Stowe, BSc (Mining Eng), MSc
Director since 2001
 
Ken received BSc and MSc degrees in Mining Engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He spent the first 21 years of his career at Noranda in various operational, R&D and corporate roles. In 1995, Ken joined Diamond Fields Resources as Vice President, Technology with responsibility for the feasibility study of the Voisey’s Bay nickel-copper deposit. Upon the acquisition of Voisey’s Bay by Inco, Ken joined Westmin Resources (subsequently acquired by Boliden) as Vice President, Operations. After the successful startup of the Lomas Bayas copper mine in Chile, he moved on to Northgate to take on the significant challenge of re-launching the company as an operating company through the turnaround of the recently commissioned but floundering Kemess South copper-gold mine. Kemess South is now one of the lowest cost gold mines in the world. During his tenure, Northgate’s market capitalization has increased by 40 times to over $1 billion. In 2006, Ken was the recipient of the prestigious Canadian Mineral Processor of the Year Award.

C. William Daniel       C. William Daniel, OC, BASc, LLD, PEng
Director since 2003
 
Mr. Daniel is a graduate of the University of Toronto. He joined Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies as a petroleum engineer in 1947 and was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Shell Canada Ltd. in 1974, a position he held until 1985. He also served as a director of Shell Canada Limited from 1973 until 1987. Mr. Daniel holds a Degree of Laws, honoris causa, from the University of Toronto and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1982. He also serves as a Director of Andrés Wines Ltd. and Canfor Corporation.

Patrick Downey       Patrick D. Downey, BComm, CA
Director since 1993
 
Mr. Downey is a retired executive who graduated from Laurentian University and was involved in the gold, copper and diamond mining industry throughout most of his career. He joined Northgate in 1980 and served as Chief Financial Officer from 1988 until 1992. Mr. Downey is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants and is currently serving as Chairman of Northgate Minerals Corporation's Audit Committee.

Douglas Hayhurst       Douglas P. Hayhurst, BA, FCA
Director since 2006
 
Mr. Hayhurst’s previous business career includes international industry leadership roles with IBM Business Consulting Services and PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting Division, and senior management roles with Price Waterhouse (Canada) including Managing Partner for British Columbia and National Deputy Managing Partner in Toronto. As well as Northgate Minerals (Audit Committee member), he currently serves on the Board of Canexus Income Fund (Audit Committee Chair and Corporate Governance and Compensation Committee member) and The Layfield Group (a private company). He is Chair of the BC Chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors, and a member of the boards of the BC Branch of The Nature Conservancy and the BC Transplant Society Foundation.

Keith Hendrick       Keith C. Hendrick, BASc (Mech), MA
Director since 2003
 
Mr. Hendrick is a graduate of the University of Toronto and Oxford University. He joined the Noranda group in 1953 and became President of Noranda Minerals Inc. in 1986 and Chairman in 1991. He has served as Chairman of Kerr Addison Mines, Hemlo Gold Mines and Minnova and as director of several mining and financial companies. He has also served as Chairman of the Mining Association of Canada, the Canadian Export Association, the Gold Institute, the Zinc Institute, the International Lead Zinc Research Association and both the Lead and Zinc Development Associations. He chaired the committee that formed the International Copper Association and was founding Chairman of the International Council on Metals and the Environment.

Klaus Konigsmann       Klaus V. Konigsmann, BEng, PEng

Mr. Konigsmann graduated from McGill University and held various positions in the Mining Corporation and Noranda Groups from 1958 until1978 when he was appointed Vice President Engineering of Noranda Minerals Inc., a position he held until 1995. He is currently the President of KVK Consulting Associates Inc. Mr. Konigsmann was awarded a Life Membership of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1996 and a Fellowship of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum in 2002.

Conrad Pinette       Conrad A. Pinette, BEng, PEng
Director since 2005
 
Mr. Pinette is a retired executive having recently completed his business career in British Columbia’s Forest Industry. He completed four years of a five year program in Business Administration and Forestry at the University of British Columbia. Mr. Pinette’s executive positions have included Executive Vice President, Tolko Industries Ltd. (2005); Executive Vice President, Riverside Forest Products Limited (2004); President and COO, Lignum Limited (1990-2004) (Lignum was acquired by Riverside Forest Products Limited in early 2004 and Riverside was subsequently acquired by Tolko Industries Ltd. in late 2004). Mr. Pinette has been a Director of a number of private and public forest products and mining companies during his business career and is currently a Director of several public companies, a principal and Director of family corporations and is active in not-for-profit organizations. Mr. Pinette is an active participant in fundraising for the Cariboo Foundation based in Williams Lake, The United Way of the Lower Mainland and is a Director of the Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital in British Columbia. Currently, he is a Director of four public companies – Director and Chairman of the Board of Finning International Inc., Director of A&W Revenue Royalties Income Fund, TimberWest Forest Corporation and Northgate Minerals Corporation.
